Immediate and Not So Immediate Treatments for Bursitis Pain

General Add comments

If you’re an athlete, then odds are bursitis pain is something you are on intimate terms with. Athletes have many things in common, no matter what their sport. For one, they push themselves harder than most people. They work out more vigorously and train even harder. With all the strain and pressure they put their bodies through, something has got to give, right? And you’re right – something does give. In the case of bursitis, it’s the joints that do.

If you are an athlete and you are feeling intense bursitis pain, stop running, sprinting, or pole-vaulting. Do not push yourself – the pain is proof you have done enough of that. Rather, sit down and rest. Do not get up until the pain has left. Then, get an ice pack and apply this onto the swollen area. Finally, as soon as you are able to, go see a doctor. He will most likely check on your symptoms. If your bursitis is the minor kind, he will send you home with a pain killer and a bottle of ‘Joint Advance’. If your bursitis is the recurring type, he will most likely drain the fluid in your bursa by sticking a needle into it. Finally, if your bursitis could result in long-term injury, he might consider surgery. No matter what course of action your doctor recommends, you can be sure, though, that it will relieve your bursitis pain.
