Eating While Pregnant

General Add comments

So you, like the rest of the world, have been obsessed with eating as little as possible to lose weight. But now you’re pregnant. The game is the opposite. You actually need to gain some weight. You actually need to be eating plenty of food to nourish your growing baby.

Let me offer some advice in facilitating this paradigm shift. First off, if you’ve developed good eating habits, don’t stop. Don’t think that you need to start filling your day with junk food to gain all of that baby weight. Keep eating nutrient rich, naturally produced, fresh food. Just start eating a little more of it. The average pregnant woman needs to be eating about 300 more calories a day.

If you have poor eating habits, it’s time to start eating properly. Many of you out there don’t eat consistently enough throughout the day. When you do eat, you eat too much. This is not good for your health and fitness and it won’t be good for you baby’s either. Start changing your habits now, for the baby’s sake, and you’ll reap the physical and psychological benefits of a healthy diet as well.

Your husband is likely to be excited about this process. It’s time to enlist him in the quest for better health. Since he doesn’t have to deal with the physical burden that you’re experiencing, he can contribute to the process by setting a good example. And he can help prepare all of those healthy meals. Start by having him make you whole-wheat pancakes with real maple syrup and strawberries tomorrow morning.
